The evangelical-lutheran deanery Biedenkopf encloses more than 27.000 local members in 28 parishes. It reaches from Bromkirchen in the „Obere Edertal“ to Breidenbach in the Lahntal and forms the head of the Evangelic church in Hessen and Nassau . In this rural area the church still stands in the middle of village. Most these are framework churches in the typically Art of „Mittelhessen coffee grinders style“ or strong military churches. (Hessen is a federal state of Germany ). The church region is characterized by a long evangelical-lutheran tradition. In the 19th century the revival movement has strongly affected the religious believes and practices in the region.
Here the churches are full on Sunday still comparatively - the statistics count averagely 2.500 worshippers a Sunday - and some parishes have many volunteer cooworkers. The deanery forms as a so named „middle level“. the connection between the parishes and the Church of Hesse and Nassau : the parish councils choose representatives into the synod of the deanery, the parliaments on the middle - of the regional - level. The members of the synod choose, for example, about the dean, form committees and inform about the work in the deanery. Thus the deanery has got more responsibility in the last years in order to strengthen the church in the region. Dean Gerhard Failing represents the church leadership of EKHN in the region. About 50 synod member belong to the Biedenkopfer deanery synod at present. For a legislative period the members choose an executive committee which leads the deanery and prepares the two synods a year. The Chairperson of the Synod n Biedenkopf is at present Mr. Frank Schmitt, Allendorf/Eder. ![]()
